About:
Partner at Foundation Capital

Siddhant (Sid) is currently a Partner at Foundation Capital where he works with entrepreneurs to build the next generation of leading enterprise software companies.

Sid’s experience has run the gamut from public to growth to early-stage, affording him a unique perspective on how brand leaders are built and sustained. He started on Wall Street at Barclays Capital, advising tech, media and telecom companies and spending time on both the buy-side and sell-side of major deals, from mergers and takeovers to corporate debt and equity financings. He then worked as an investment professional at Symphony Technology Group, a Palo Alto-based private equity firm investing in software, technology-enabled and data analytics companies. Before arriving at Foundation Capital, Sid was an investor at Omidyar Technology Ventures where he invested in and counseled early-stage enterprise software companies.

Outside of work, Sid serves on the advisory council for Entrepreneurship at Cornell and serves as a board member of the Cornell Venture Capital Club, which he co-founded during college.

Talk at RSA:
Investing in Cyber: How to Raise Money for a Cyber Startup
https://www.rsaconference.com/USA/agenda/session/Investing%20in%20Cyber%20How%20to%20Raise%20Money%20for%20a%20Cyber%20Startup
Do you need to raise venture capital?
If yes, how do you raise venture capital?
They have seen a lot of Red Flags over the years.
How to connect with VC’s in Cybersecurity?
What does due diligence mean?

The mindset in startup investing has changed from 2 years ago.
Starting with Covid, the Russia / Ukraine situation.
The climate went from raise as much as you can, spend as much as you can to get results…
After the last two years, we are now having startups slowing down, reducing valuations and cutting headcount…
And here we are in 2023 – That has changed. How we react to the current climate is going to be the next challenge… 3 things come to mind!

1) Have a close analysis of pipeline – and which customers will actually close. Customers that will take too long to close, cut them loose and revisit 6 months to a year. Ditch superfluous opps.
2) Who you have on the team – are they doing the best job? If not, you need to cut people loose. Hire fast and Fire fast. Now is the time to make changes early.
3) What is the cash position and relative ARR? The new trend is to focus on the Net Burn Multiple. New net burn divided by New ARR.
THe metrics he likes is Cumulative capital burn – How much burn since the start of the company vs ARR. What is the burn to get the next ARR.
